Model with stairs

Our Wk 2 independent task required us to design a set of stairs for our new or improved sketch up structure. To adhere with a set program in relation to my building  i designed three sets of stairs instead of the required two. The three stairs work well together allowing a connected and flowing movement between the underground workshop, gallery and the above ground workshop.

The above section image shows the underground set of stairs moving up towards the ground space, these set of stairs are linear and work well with the design choice of the underground workshop. The stairs are of a stainless steel material and as you exit the workshop you are instantly in front of the second set of stairs that go to the above studio enabling a specified program to be created in that way.

As you exit from the underground workshop set of stairs you are directed through the design of the building to the second set of spiral stairs as shown above. I chose these stairs to be in a wooden material as it works well with the glass scheme of the above ground workshop. The spiral shape provides a nice contrast with the linear nature of the overall design softening the structure.

The Third set of stairs flows from the other side of the above ground workshop to the gallery this completes my intentional program where the underground, above ground and gallery are connected through the stairs. The third set of stairs are in a similar design to the above ground work space as it primarily focuses on glass as a material and design selection. Overall my stair sets connect each space in the structure together making the stairs a essential part in the structure and program of the design.
