2 Draft models

The first draft model was the one i went with when developing the final model, it is very different, bare and more complex than my final model but by creating this draft model i allowed myself to experiment and finally create a piece i was happy with. The sectional image i took it from is very different from the draft but in terms of major design elements it is similar.

The second draft model below was initially the first sketch-up model i had created in this course this model enabled me to explore sketch-up and the concepts of how 2D shapes are converted into a 3D design. I decided not to go with this model as i felt it didn't work with the concept of the datum we were working with.

Model with Stairs and Textures

This wk our task was to play around with the textures we created in class in Google Sketch -up. We were also required to create simple blocks to add the works of our artists.

Model with stairs

Our Wk 2 independent task required us to design a set of stairs for our new or improved sketch up structure. To adhere with a set program in relation to my building  i designed three sets of stairs instead of the required two. The three stairs work well together allowing a connected and flowing movement between the underground workshop, gallery and the above ground workshop.

Getting to know Sketch up

Our first independent study task was to develop one of our sketch sections in Sketch up, to allow us to bring a 2d concept and give life to it in 3D. This task allowed me to familarise myself with sektch up, but one of the problems i found was trying to convert my 2D sketch perfectly into 3D. There were many situations where I had to compromise some design elements as i was unable to convert the elements in sketch-up or where in some situations the geometry was extremely difficult to convert to 3D.

The sketch 2D section I used (right), has a distinctive spiral like shape above the datum and a layered extruding shape below the datum. To make the spiral tower shape i had to you tube a video that showed how to create a solid spiral and the rest was just me playing around and getting comfortable with all the basic Sketch up tools.

18 Sketch Sections

The following sketch sections represent the two artists Louis Borgeious and Ai Wei Wei. The top half of each section represents the noun, adjective an verb i used to describe Louis Borgeious's work and the bottom hand of the sections correspond representing Ai Wei Wei's work.

Sectional drawings at first were hard to grasp and including the concept of the datum made grasping the ideology behind this task extremely difficult, but as the lesson progressed and as i became more confident with my penmenship my sectional sketches began to progress.
